We have seen Japan become more environmentally conscious in recent times, even on a small scale, from create new dishes using food waste to the growing number of vegan restaurants in Tokyo.
Now, a new outdoor pop-up food court is opening on October 8 aims to help Tokyoites become more aware of alternative food and drink. Defeat Yaesu, located just outside the central Yaesu exit of Tokyo Station, will feature eight different food trucks serving sustainable cuisine, including plenty of vegan options.
At the aperitif truck you can get an assortment of vegetables with a bagna cauda dip made by the luxury hotel Aman Tokyo, which comes with lettuce grown on a special urban farm in Tokyo. Or grab a thick and juicy vegan burger made by The Vegetarian Butcher and top it off with a cone from the truck of vegan pickled ice cream.
There will be an open space in the center with plenty of chairs, benches and tables where you can sit and enjoy your food. Beat Yaesu will run until the end of March 2021, and the organizers plan to screen cooking films in the future in partnership with Brillia Short Shorts Theater Online. Keep an eye on Beat Yaesu website, as the food on offer might even change to match the cuisine featured in the movies.
