Agricultural schools set to start in Guntur district, Andhra Pradesh – The New Indian Express

GUNTUR: With the aim of turning farmers into agricultural scientists and educating them on the best agricultural practices available, YSR Polambadi or agricultural schools are set to start in the former district of Guntur from the end of July.

According to agriculture department officials, about 5.34 lakh hectares will be cultivated during the Kharif season with paddy topping the list with 2.22 lakh hectares, cotton at 1.69 lakh hectares, chilli at 73 777 hectares, the pigeon pea on 22,538 hectares in Guntur, Palnadu and Bapatla. districts.

These sessions will be organized for farmers within the boundaries of approximately 816 Rytu Bharosa Kendrams (RBK) in the former district of Guntur. About 470 rice schools, 270 cotton schools and other crops were planned. Village officers would open farm schools with about 30 farmers each for 14 days in each village.

Explaining what farmers will learn in these schools, Deputy Director of Agriculture Venkateswarulu said The new Indian Express that from when and how to sow the seeds and how much pesticide or fertilizer to use, educating farmers on the importance of organic farming would be part of the program.

Agriculture Department officials have also set targets to promote the reduction of chemical pesticides. For the first time, officials plan to include students in these sessions and experience farming alongside farmers in a more lively environment.

Officials selected more than 250 schools across the district for the same. However, the authorities have received no further instructions in this regard. “We are still thinking about this because we have not received any instructions from senior officials,” Venkateswarulu said.

Teachers believe this will help students connect with nature. N Radha Kumari, a public school science teacher, said observing farming practices will help students understand the concept more easily.

Through this, they will also realize the efforts and difficulties that farmers face in providing food to the people, she added.
